Alternating phase focusing beam dynamics for drift tube linacs
In contrast to conventional E-mode resonance accelerators, H-mode DTLs provide for compact linac sections and have been established as highly efficient resonators during the last decades. Thus, H-mode structures are widely applied for heavy-ion acceleration with medium beam energies because of their outstanding capability to provide high acceleration gradients with relatively low energy consumption. [...]

Alternating phase focusing (APF) recently emerged as a promising beam dynamics concept for accelerating bunched proton or ion beams in drift tube linear accelerators, eliminating the need for additional transverse and longitudinal focusing lenses. The performance of APF systems, similar to radio frequency quadrupoles, heavily relies on the employed focusing lattice, including the particle synchronous phase in each gap, as well as various hyperparameters such as the number of gaps, the focusing gradient, and the required beam acceptance. [...]

From 3D to 5D tracking: SMX ASIC-based Double-Sided Micro-Strip detectors for comprehensive space, time, and energy measurements
2024TWEPP 2023, GeremeasGeremeas, Italy, 2 Oct 2023 - 6 Oct 20232023-10-022023-10-06
We present the recent development of a lightweight detector capable of accurate spatial, timing, and amplitude resolution of charged particles. The technology is based on double-sideddouble-metal p+ – n – n+ micro-strip silicon sensors, ultra-light long aluminum-polyimide micro-cables for the analogue signal transfer, and a custom-developed SMX read-out ASIC capable ofmeasurement of the time (Δ𝑡 ≲ 5 ns) and amplitude.
