Note: The project deals with experimental and theoretical studies on the influence of acoustic phonons on the non-linear and non-Markovian dynamics of strongly confined excitons and biexcitons in quantum dots with and without interaction with a microcavity. The theoretical part applies a pathintegral method which, in contrast to conventional approximation methods, allows for a numerically complete description of these systems. This will enable a meaningful comparison between experiment and theory. The envisaged studies aim on a profound understanding of fundamental issues of the dynamics of dissipative quantum systems and, furthermore, it will also address open questions related to the application of the systems in optoelectronic devices and in the field of quantum information processing. Important goals are: understanding of phonon-induced relaxation in laser-driven exciton-biexciton-systems, including their dependence on the intensity and the polarization of the excitation; analysis of the stationary non-equilibrium state; studies of the dynamics of quantum dot-exciton and quantum dot-biexciton systems coupled to microcavity modes under the influence of acoustic phonons including the studies of the degree of entanglement at elevated temperatures.
