Note: At Carmat we have designed and developed Aeson®, the world’s most advanced total artificial heart (TAH), aiming to fulfill an unmet medical need by providing a credible therapeutic alternative to heart transplants for people suffering from end-stage biventricular heart failure. Aeson® is an active implantable medical device intended to replace the ventricles of the native heart in patients suffering from advanced heart failure. The device is electro-hydraulically driven with a shape close to that of a human heart. Once the Aeson® is powered, it mimics the action of a normal heart, providing mechanical circulatory support and restoring normal blood flow through the body. Aeson® differs from other existing artificial hearts (or TAH – total artificial hearts) in its unique combination of three features: pulsatility, autoregulation and hemocompatibility. With Aeson®, Carmat is creating a new therapeutic class of “physiologic heart replacement therapy” (PHRT).
