abstract = {This work was done within the framework of the HITRAP
facility, which is designed to decelerate ion bunches down
to the sub-eV energy region resulting in a cooled bunch of
approximately 105 HCI that can be used for the SPECTRAP
experiment, and it was carried out at the GSI/FAIR Institute
of Darmstadt in Germany. The SPECtroscopy TRAP, i.e.,
SPECTRAP, is an experiment located at the ESR hall of this
Institute. The main goal of this experiment is to trap
highly charged ions, cool them down to ultra-low
temperatures and study them with laser spectroscopy. In
order for an experiment like this to be performed, a
superconducting magnet is needed. In previous years, the
magnet suffered damage that caused a liquid helium leakage
from the cryostat into the main vacuum, which made storage
of HCI next to impossible, and because of that, a new magnet
has been procured (a Swedish in-kind contribution to the
FAIR facility). There are some major differences between the
old and the new magnet; therefore, the need for a new setup
arose. The project’s main goal is the design of this new
set-up that will operate in the new magnet. The work
includes the theoretical calculations for heat influx in the
center of the Penning trap located in the center of the
experiment. Moreover, simulations have been done to define
and optimize the vacuum with the new setup. Furthermore, the
design of the new trap was done with the appropriate
software, called “Solid Edge”, to build the actual parts
                      of the experiment.},
