Relativistic Interaction of Long-Wavelength Ultrashort Laser Pulses with Nanowires
We report on experimental results in a new regime of relativistic light-matter interaction employing midinfrared (3.9-mu m wavelength) high-intensity femtosecond laser pulses. In the laser-generated plasma, electrons reach relativistic energies already for rather low intensities due to the fortunate lambda(2) scaling of the kinetic energy with the laser wavelength. [...]

Interaction of relativistically intense laser pulses with long-scale near critical plasmas for optimization of laser based sources of MeV electrons and gamma-rays
Experiments were performed to study electron acceleration by intense sub-picosecond laser pulses propagating in sub-mm long plasmas of near critical electron density (NCD). Low density foam layers of 300-500 mu m thickness were used as targets. [...]

The development of new diagnostics is important to improve the interpretation of experiments. Often well-known physical processes and techniques originally developed in unrelated fields of science can be applied to a different area with a significant impact on the quality of the produced data. Magneto-Rayleigh–Taylor instability in an elastic finite-width medium overlying an ideal fluid
We present the linear theory of two-dimensional incompressible magneto-Rayleigh–Taylor instability in a system composed of a linear elastic (Hookean) layer above a lighter semi-infinite ideal fluid with magnetic fields present, above and below the layer. As expected, magnetic field effects and elasticity effects together enhance the stability of thick layers. [...]
