Abstract: This paper presents the current status of cooling simulation tools and their advancements and applications, with a focus on Xsuite, a new simulation tool developed that includes cooling, space charge, and intrabeam scattering. The paper covers the capabilities of cooling simulation tools, recent advancements, and their impact on the field of beam cooling. The interplay of different cooling techniques with heating effects is discussed, and predictive models for existing and future electron cooler performance optimization are presented. The feasibility of laser cooling in the CERN storage rings is also assessed, with a focus on future project proposals in the frame of the Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) project.
