The South East European International Institute for Sustainable Technologies (SEEIIST) proposes the construction of a major joint Research Infrastructure in the region, to rebuild cooperation after the recent wars and overcome lasting consequences like technology deficits and brain drain, having at its core a facility for cancer therapy and biomedical research with heavy ions. Beams of ions like Carbon are an advanced way to irradiate tumours but more research is needed, while the higher investment costs than for other radiation treatments have so far limited the European facilities to only four. Production of Radioisotopes for Cancer Imaging and Treatment with Compact Linear Accelerators
202213th International Particle Accelerator Conference, IPAC2022, BangkogBangkog, Thailand, 12 Jun 2022 - 12 Jun 20222022-06-122022-06-12

Accelerator-produced radioisotopes are widely used in modern medicine, for imaging, for cancer therapy, and for combinations of therapy and diagnostics. Clinical trials are well advanced for several radioisotope-based treatments that might open the way to a strong request of specific accelerator systems dedicated to radioisotope production. [...]

Mixed-species charge and baryon balance functions studies with PYTHIA
[arXiv:2403.13007]
Mixed species charge and baryon balance functions are computed based on proton-proton (pp) collisions simulated with the PYTHIA8 model. Simulations are performed with selected values of the collision energy s and the Monash tune and the ropes and shoving modes of PYTHIA8 to explore whether such measurements provide useful new information and constraints on mechanisms of particle production in pp collisions. [...]

Anomalous soft photons: Status and perspectives
[arXiv:2406.17959]
This report summarizes the work of the EMMI Rapid Reaction Task Force on “Real and Virtual Photon Production at Ultra-Low Transverse Momentum and Low Mass at the LHC”. We provide an overview of the soft-photon puzzle, i.e., of the long-standing discrepancy between experimental data and predictions based on Low’s soft-photon theorem, also referred to as “anomalous” soft photon production, and we review the current theoretical understanding of soft radiation and soft theorems. [...]

Nonlinear Schwinger mechanism in QCD, and Fredholm alternatives theorem
[arXiv:2407.04392]
We present a novel implementation of the Schwinger mechanism in QCD, which fixes uniquely the scale of the effective gluon mass scale and streamlines considerably the procedure of multiplicative renormalization. The key advantage of this method stems from the nonlinear nature of the dynamical equation that generates massless poles in the longitudinal sector of the three-gluon vertex. [...]
